Hi!
Is anyone here aware of any literature or research done in terms of "silence" as a musical device in guqin music performance? In western music performance, the use of silence is largely represetned by rests etc. I don't think that the same can be said of guqin music (or maybe even traditional Chinese music in the past in general), but your opinions will be appreciated. There doesn't seem to be anything in trad. musical notation like rests to indicate silence (though there are a number of techniques in guqin playing, as represented by certain notational symbols, that generate a silence-like, rest-like effect).
Best - GZL
