Does anyone know whether "kunqu" should be spelled ‹Çú or À¥Çú? I'm guessing that there are two different spellings, like for "yangqin" (one older, and more proper than the other).

I'm not sure. The first one's kun refers to kunlun shan whilst the second one means 'a lot together', 'decendants' or 'brother'. I suppose looking at it that way, it might be the first unless there's something special.

Hmm.. seems like both will do, although Charlie is right, the first is most probably err more appropriate in the historical sense.. since that style of opera sort of originated near the kunshan (À¥É½or‹É½,both seems to be used somewhat interchangably now?) area.. Me 2 cents..
