I agree with you, Dick. Your choice of words was better than mine. In particular, it is not so much a matter of fairness to judge the 12 Girls band by trad standards, as it is simply irrelevant. Let's focus on what we like.
See, I can be reasonable. <g>
By the way, I would appreciate a link to erhu jianpu with simple tunes. Please let me know if you run across any. I don't know how long I will be in first position, but will practice hard to expand my range.
Best wishes,
David Dahl

All, The first two columns of the dizi scores comes up to about 7.7MB zipped.
I don't have a place to host them, so I'd be willing to send emails to individuals when I go to work Tuesday. I can't do from home because I only have a 56K dialup.
If anyone is interested, let me know -- I can also re-zip these to make a couple of smaller archives so it doesn't bring down your email servers. I know most ISPs have email attachement limitations.

Okay I found the midis and the rar (that's "real" yes?), but no jian pu or other scores at sillyduck. What's the secret?
By the way, Andrew, that avatar is rather pretty. New, isn't it? Is it a shot of one of your flutes? Nice...

Hiyah!!
David, maybe the sillyduck is better for you as Cadenza's library focuses on traditional pieces. (actually, these pieces are classical solo pieces, you will need them soon anyway)
Silly duck has a lot of simple tunes, play around with them first, but hey, at your stage, practise pieces, boring as theya re, are crucial to improvement. Ok?

Hey all:
I just visited Cadenza's score site and found a whole new erhu section. Thanks, YouLanFengChune! Lots of work, and it's much appreciated. I now have enough music for a lifetime, certainly.
I really also like the simple, short pieces. They are indeed great practice pieces, and easy enough to whip out to impress friends when I'm not warmed up for those upper position monsters like Er Quan Ying Yue! I will happily play Nan Ni Wan for hours.

I actually enjoy the practice tunes and don't find them boring. I would rather not play really good tunes now until I am ready for them. I have had the experience of trying to learn music I really loved, but had to work so hard that I didn't like it so much by the time I was finished. I am working on pinky exercises now and my cat is not at all pleased. All it takes now is for me to bring my nhi/erhu in the room and the cat leaves with her ears flat. <g> Best wishes, David Dahl

Some places that I have found that have jianpu scores (use babelfish to see the "english" names of the tunes): I see that babelfish is a for-fee-based service. How expensive is it to use for website translations as with the jianpu score sites? Thanks. Best wishes, David

You may have accessed babelfish.com which is not free. However the following is totally free: world.altavista.com/This is a machine translator and sometimes the results are less than perfect. Steve

All, I've downloaded all the erhu scores and would be will to zip them in groups and email them out to people. Let me know.
I zipped according to columns listed at Cadenza, so, 1st col is ~3.4MB 2nd col is ~7.1MB 3rd col is ~6.7MB 4th col is ~ 7.4MB 5th col is ~5.8MB

By the way, Andrew, that avatar is rather pretty. New, isn't it? Is it a shot of one of your flutes? Nice... Oh, I wish it was one of my flutes. I found the picture of this xiao on the net, probably on one of my trolls through museum pages looking for pictures of instruments.

Yes. I know of three translation engines, The first of which is babelfish.altavista.com, the second is the engine that babelfish uses (and doesn't time out so much, just register for free): www.systransoft.com/, and the third one is a specifically literal translation engine, www.adsotrans.com/advanced.html. Use guest for the username and guest for the password.

Hi, all, Just wanted to jump in and add my thanks to YouLangFenChune. The online library is great. Huzzah, Cadenza Music! I've been sending the link to several non-forumed e-friends. Is there any chance of adding a bawu section? I find it difficult to find music that will fit into the limited range, though I love the sound (who doesn't?). Thanks again, hope all are well. Kyokuhon.

As of this afternoon, it appears none of the erhu pieces hosted at 7i24.com are available. The error page that gets displayed is in Chinese, appears to be something about use being suspended. Have those scores gone away permanently?
I can't get to the flute pieces either, but in that case it seems more the whole server diyun.com is down off-line.

Hi, everybody, I just went to the cadenza website and was able to download all of the xiao pieces. The erhu pieces wouldn't come up for me either, but the few dizi pieces I tried came up fine. Be well, K.

Hmmm... One imagines that the owners of the diyun.com and 7i24.com sites manage their content somehow, whether adding new scores or putting up new material or whatever they do. Obviously, if they decide to take the sites down, or limit access to them, those scores will no longer be available. It's not clear what cadenza's relationship with those sites is, if any. YouLanFengChune implied that permission was not sought to post a list of links. Perhaps he would like to clarify what he knows about how the library is maintained? Possibly cadenza's idea of a "library" doesn't coincide with mine. My dad was a real book librarian for fifty years. He cared for archives of useful information, ensured that they were treated properly and organized in a useful way, and helped people find what they needed among them. Do these concepts reflect cadenza's intent?
