www.amc.org.uk/summer_schools/2007/courses.htmSo what's happened to the pipa, dizi, and koto classes? I can understand the dizi being cancelled, I think there were only 2 students last year, but the pipa and koto seemed to be quite full last year. Perhaps they were cancelled because not enough people have signed up so far?

Cheng Yu is not doing pipa this year because she has other more pressing jobs in these few months. I dunno about the koto.

Oh I see, I suppose they couldn't find another teacher. I don't think I'll go this year, The format's not ideal for me, I'd rather have 5 erhu lessons once every 1 or 2 weeks, although I might see if I can be go for 1 day. They already have the min number of students required signed up.

Yeah I find the prospect of 5 lessons in 5 days a bit daunting, especially in a happening place like london with lots to do and possibly no access to a suitable table to practice on.
My brain often feels exhausted after a 1 hour lesson - haha

Hardly exhausting. It is rather relaxing IMO.
Also, a bit peed off that the taiko concert is place before the JMSS and CMSS actually starts meaning I'll miss it! This is something I'll put in the comments section of the feedback form...

If your all learning a different piece I imagine there might be a time limmit on the tune - like not longer than 5mins approx. otherwise it would take too long to teach it?

No. I learnt Lui Shui and Kongzi Duyi from him and was about to go onto something else!
Length of piece is all relative. it depends on the experience of the player.

Actually, the lesson structure will be the least of your worries. I just hope it doesn't rain like it did today!

Just found out participant numbers. 12 for qin and 6 for erhu this year.

Actually, I am going now but only for one day! So if anyone's still interested in going but might find the idea of 3-4 hours of classes (group) for 5 days to be too much (plus there's plenty of time to practice on your own as well, the building's open all day), going for 1 or 2 days is a good alternative. It starts on Tuesday, so there's still time :-)
Re the taiko concert, yeah it does seem a strange to have it on before the Japanese and Chinese summer school actually starts.

The best day is the first (the yaji day) or last day (the participant concert day).
Also, accroding to the timetable, there is a 'pre-concert talk' on the 1st at 16-17.15 in the David Josefowitz Hall by ZCW and Hu Bin. Like many thing, this is subject to change.
I am in the midst of finishing my Hanfu (I don't think the Hanfu I ordered from China with Toronto's help will arrive tomorrow morning in time). I have to make the wings of my wushamao and fix the collar of my zhongyi tonight. I will be in Hanfu for the yaji only since I won't have my informal Hanfu in time to wear to the sessions.

Isn't the yaji not actually part of the summer school but it just happens to be at the same place and time? In theory you could go to this yaji just as you would to the non-summer school ones, right? Not that I would want to go...
I'm going on Thursday, the day of the qin and erhu concert. I'll probably pop in on the last day to see the participants' concert as well.

You can go to the yaji, participant or not. Oh, forgot to mention the concert, but then again, you could go to that participant or not.
I think the yaji is sort of part of the SS since it is held because there is one. It is also on the SS timetable.

I'm off to London in a bit for the summer school tomorrow! The only thing is that my Hanfu didn't arrive today... Oh well. At least I finally finished my backup set!
