My orchestra is looking for zhonghus. The Chinese viola. The director was asking the erhus in my band if we would switch some people to zhonghus for a performance. I want to go so bad!!! But staying with erhu, she said we didn't have much of a chance of competing with the advanced group. So if we played zhonghu, we would go because they were needed. So should I switch? Also, how the heck to you play the sihu? Here's a picture: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/image:sihu.jpg

I just heard a sample of the zhonghu. It sounds so depressing!!! Is it the instrument or the song? I heard 2 samples, both were so heart striking!

I find the zhonghu sound is really depressing like and the sound is close to a violin.

I find the zhonghu sound is really depressing like and the sound is close to a violin. I think the sound of the zhonghu is lovely and closer to that of a viola. The violin sound is brighter and more like a erhu and maybe gaohu. Best wishes, David
