My teacher is organizing a guzheng concert this May in memorial of her teacher the late Prof. Qiu Dacheng. His widow, Prof. Xu Xiaolin, composer of many contemporary guzheng pieces such as "Qianzhong Fu", will also travel all the way from Beijing to the U.S. to join in this concert.
No details of the event has been released yet but I'll try to post updates as soon as the info is confirmed.

Hi Sleepy:
Thanks for posting this information. It seems NY has a lot more Chinese music activities than west coast.

I'm guessing it's due the locations of chinese communities in the Tri-State area which are more focused, but spread out in the West Coast, that might give you the impression that we have more activities.

Sigh, I wish I could go if NJ is not 2000 miles away. I've never seen "Shu Xiang Feng Qing Suites" played live.

Sigh, I wish I could go if NJ is not 2000 miles away. I've never seen "Shu Xiang Feng Qing Suites" played live. Only 3 out of the 5 pieces from the Suite were performed, which were rearranged to be accompanied by Yangqin, Pipa & Percussion, just for the concert. Guess which 3? Here's a report in Chinese on the concert, in a local NJ paper: www.worldjournal.com/wj-nj-news.php?nt_seq_id=1366246It might ask you to log in before you can read the article.
