Hey, all, I found another source of guqin information in English: "Celestial Airs of Antiquity: Music of the Seven-String Zither of China" (forgive the quotes, I know italics or underline are proper for a book title, but the program won't put them in) edited by Bell Yung, published by A-R Editions of Madison, Wisconsin. It's #5 of the Recent Researches in the Oral Traditions of Music series.
It's definitely a scholarly pub., and includes transcriptions of 6 pieces (title list below) into staff notation along with a facsimile of the original, as played by Yao Bingyan; extensive notes on transcription and practice; and a great list of explanations of symbols in English.
I haven't looked for it online except at abebooks.com, and they had two copies offered, one at about $35 and one at about $115. I don't know if I'd pay either price for it, since I can get it out of my college's library, and the music can be had more cheaply elsewhere, but there it is. I haven't checked with the publisher to see if it's available new.
Here's the title list, with Bell Yung's translation:
Jiukuang (wine Madness) Huaxuyin (Song of Huaxu) Yangchun (Sunny Spring) Liushui (Flowing Waters) Xiaohujia (Little Barbarian Horn, or The Story of Cai Wenji) Guanglingsan (Niezheng Assassinates the King of Han).
There's also a CD available of Yao Bingyan playing all the pieces.
Best to all, and keep playing! K.

www.hanshan.com has a copy I think for around £55 (not on the website listings but on the private list). I'll go check in a bit.
