Look at this. I've never seen a qianjin tied so high. I don't think it can go any higher than that. What is going on? IS this special strings? I don't think it is tuned to D-A. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihz1BU9_bRE

yes. it is tuned to G-D. first of all, i dont think that is even a normal erhu. either it is an erquan or a zhonghu. i think it is a zhonghu. but the qianjin is most likely tied so high because the higher it is, the more space you have meaning you can go higher. zhonghus can not go very high, i tried to ply erquan on it, and barely even got close to playing a high note in that song. but as you can see, tying the qianjin higher means you can play high notes, so its a zhonghu that can reach notes on the A string on erhu. im pretty sure that is why, this song is played often on violin, which has strings G-D-A-E. so by making the qianjin higher, he can pretty much play all of these notes.
