Hi everyone, I have been playing my erhu for about a year now, and have never had a problem. But recently, I picked it up, and went to play, and the "D string" is not catching. I tried applying my normal product to the bow, but still no noise. The A string is unnaffected by whatever could have happened. Any ideas? or advice? anything?

You can try carefully cleaning the string with an alcohol swab (keep away from finish and skin).
If that doesn't work its possible the outer part of the bow hair has gotten greasy. to test this theory, string the bow in backwards .. as if you were going to bow with your left hand. that should put the inside working part of the bow on the d string. if this works then you can try washing it with a mild soap or detergent. I usually remove the frog (is that right term?) from the bow leaving the other end attached. get a long thin bowl and submerge the bow (but not the tip where its still attached. gently massage the hairs, separating them as you go along. the soap doesn't dissolve the resin very well so you have to work at it.
Also, its a possibility that you have worn your bow out. It's recommended that you replace it about every 6 months i think.
