Hi Carlos, Thanks for sharing your video! I really enjoyed it, and I'm very impressed at how well you play the erhu. May

Why didn't you guys do the trad. duet of erhu and yangqin? I want to hear a good clear version of that. Can't find one on youtube. Good job though!

Jetz: I like that way, too, but we thought a double-erhu tune would impress the kids. You're right, though - different instruments together can bring out the best of both. Kind of like juxtaposing two very different visuals together - like a diamond on black velvet - highlights the particular character of each item. Carlos

Erhu with guzheng is much better than with yangqin, in my opinion. I don't know why the latter is so much more common.
When I play with my teacher, sometimes I play dan bau with his erhu. Other times I play erhu and he plays zhonghu. On Thursday evening, I will play zhonghu with his gaohu for a tune. I do like to mix and match textures and sonorities. Evenually I will get up to speed on guzheng.
Best wishes,
David

Hi Carlos,
You've improved a lot since your last video. The tone of your erhu sounds great!

Thanks for the encouraging words! It's that new heavier Beijing bow. I'm just putting more ooomph into each stroke. I've also practiced a lot.

David: Any chance of a video? Carlos Dr. Yang and I played last night at the Portland Chinese Garden. We were more background music for a fund-raising party than a concert, but that was fine with me. Unfortunately, the noise and situation did not make a video or sound recording worth the trouble. It would be fun to arrange for a video recording session at the Garden some time though. The huqin family was well-represented at the Garden. Dr. Yang played erhu, gaohu, and jinghu, and I played erhu and zhonghu. For several tunes, I played dan bau with Dr. Yang on erhu. We do plan to record some erhu/dan bau duets in the near future. That would be a unique CD! Best wishes, David
