Hi everyone. The forum seems kind of lonely lately. Anyways, you know that I have a lot of questions from looking at all level musicians play the erhu. Now, I'm also starting to notice that some musicians have this sort of qianjin that is only 1 loop. Nothing else. I've seen the tuners, and now I see this. Is this a replacement for the tuners? I saw my teacher tuning her erhu and thenshe kept moving this "mini" qianjin up. So is this for the tuning, or is it for the tone of the instreument. I think it is for the tone. I jsut did it to my pro. erhu and the sound got a bit more emotional. Thanks for all your help!!!

The extra qianjin is for fine tuning. My teacher does this on his erhu because one of the pegs does not turn smoothly. My pegs are fine so I have not bothered.
Best wishes,
David

Yes its for fine tuning. An alternative to using those wittner fine adjustors.
Are you sure the sound of your erhu got more emotional? Maybe because there are more strings attached. hahaha....

Hello!
I'm glad to be back! 8 term papers, Tax returns and 6 distributors are killing me. Not to mention students and performances.
I'm glad to see the forum people again. How's everything?
I'll spend more time here from now on! Carlos: Things will be sent out within 48 hours.

Thanks for the info, but how do the fine tuners help?

Fine tuners:
Some erhus don't want to tune easily. The pegs don't fit quite right, and it's hard to get the strings juuuuust right. Fine tuners can help oomph that note up or down just a tad. I don't find a need for them at all. It might be my decades of musical experience and tuning instruments that makes it easy for me, or it might be that my erhus are just by luck easy to tune.

qianjin fine tuners are the best. Metallic ones are never sold by me, cos my teachers and i believe it spoils the strings. Imagine the same contraption on ur fingers.Ewww. many performers use it though, cos its really convienenient.
to use the qianjin-tuner, simply tie it roughly as wide as the qianjin itself. Its one qianjin-tuner to 1 string. Slide it UP to Increase tension (and pitch) slide it down to lower pitch. AS simple as that. It has several goot points.
1. balances tension of strings. 2. ease of tuning 3. dpoes not bend string at od angle.

Well, better tie the nylon fine tuners slightly wider than the qianjin. Else when you do pressure vibratos, the strings might dislodge from the qianjin itself and affect the tuning.
