We standardized our tying now to a definite 6-6-6 fomat. We made a video, and please comment and or improve. This suits erhu and zhonghu. The Gaogu requires 6-4-6 format. www.cadenzamusic.biz/qianjin.htm

Not bad! Much better than following the still pics on the other sites I've seen. However, her hand obscures the action at the very end where she threads the last of the string through the loop and tightens it. It would be good to see that part, too. Oh, and I wouldn't name it the "6-6-6 format" unless you want to arouse intense theological debate. Carlos

the best i can tell the only mention of 6-6-6 related to anything theological was in the movie "The omen" ... that and the tarnishing of the name Damien.
although someday it will be on the tags of my mid life crisis sports car. im going to buy in about 10 years or so. Black exterior, burgandy leather interior with chrome details. ahh .. wait what were we talking about...
oh yeah nice video. Very informative. I always tie it with the loop on the back of the neck. That way looks easier to keep together.
Unfortunately, I agree with Calden, It might lose you buisness from Christians even though the superstition is misfounded. But, thats proably not as big of concern outside my area.

666 is SUPPOSEDLY the "mark of the beast" in Biblical literature, and scares the pants off Biblical literalists, or folks who take everything the Bible says quite literally. HOWEVER in recent years some scholars have determined that the number has been mistranslated for generations and is actually 616.
So 666 has an enormous amount of weight behind it to most anyone in modern American culture. They either fear it and freak out at it, or scoff at it (count me in group #2.) If nothing else it reads as a joke. Kind of like supersitions about the number 13, or Chinese and Japanese hospitals not having a labelled 4th floor because of the similarity of the sound of "four" with "death."
I just think it's a misguided 999.

This is a very helpful video!
A few comments:
It's not clear how she makes the loop, to begin with. It's not clear when she is drawing the thread under the erhu string (it's every other round for a while, isn't it?). I agree about the hand obscuring what she does at the end, this is probably an important step for someone who's never done it before. It would help a lot if she said out loud what she was doing along the way.
That said, I think it's very good, and would be fantastic with a few improvements.
