Are you referring to this? The column on the left refers to the key, so "1=D" indicates a tune will be in the key of D. So, 1=D, 2=E, 3=F# and so forth. The column on the right indicates the scale degrees (note number) of the open (unfingered) strings in each key. Most of the time the erhu is tuned to D/A, so in the numeric notation for the key of D, the strings are tuned to D=1 and A=5. In the key of C (where 1=C) the D string is 2 in the scale, and the A string is 6 in the scale, so you see the entry 2----6. Best wishes, David
