I recently replaced the stock strings on my erhu with a pair of Austrian Thomastik-Infeld. At first I enjoyed the much improved sensitivity, but now I am not so sure the increased brightness is to my liking. I suspect that the Thomastiks would sound better on an old rosewood erhu, but my ebony sandalwood already tends to brightness.
Does anyone have experience with premium erhu strings that do not jack up the brightness so much? What about "Fang Fang" strings?
Thanks.
Best wishes,
David

I never heard of those brands before. I just stick to Dunhuang brand. They are good quality and don't break as often as the ones that came with my erhu.

I have fang fang coming in real soon. Thomastik is still preferred for many things. Dunhuang-Dunhuang strings are good ebough anyway.
