I was watching the videos on erhu at youTube.com and was interested in hoe the erhu players were playing while standing, is there some kind of strap? www.youtube.com/v/qAZDM17Omfc

im just guessing, but it looks like the erhus were attached to a platform of some sort. the platform looks like it is either attached to a belt or a harness under the shirt.
I have read that sometimes erhus are played with a neck strap but not often because the position muffles the sound somewhat.
Thats a very nice song. It looks like no single person is playing for more than a few seconds at a time though.

hahaha We sell the contraption. Its a girdle made of metal. Sounds like a combination erhu strap and chastity belt. ;D I have seen them on Ebay, but I don't see any listed now. Best wishes, David

Erm, I spotted something! At 01:03, she takes the dizi away from her mouth and it still sounds!
Was it a mimed performance?!!!

*watches again*
Erm, no! Everything else seems to be in sync with the music (watch the erhu and match it with the music)! It must be an incredible time delay of at least 2 seconds for that to happen (YouTube has a time delay of a quater of a second)! Which means...

Now look at this guy - Busking at the Tam Shui Subway station north of Taipei. He's got a little bit of everything hanging on, including an amplifier for the erhu. Carlos

CCC:
You're just jealous. I'd like to see you do that with a qin.
By the way, he played terribly. The amplifier was a tiny little box that made his already poor playing sound like an angry congested bee. It was then that I decided I could learn to play better than that. But I've got to give him credit for busking confidence. Hardly anyone was watching him. He noticed me with my camera and was probably delighted that a foreigner was taking interest.
