Thank you for the link to the scores for Jasmine Flower. I'm just starting to learn it along with learning the G scale fingering. I'm particularly grateful for the vocal score. I remember hearing an interview with one of the Marsalis brothers (I can't remember if it was Winton or Branford) in which he said that their father insisted that they learn the words to any tune they played because it would give them a better grasp of the proper phrasing of the tune. Without that, it's just a collection of notes. That makes sense to me, so I'm going to try my best to do it.

.....!!!! Tats Erquan Ying Yue or Reflection of the Moon at Eruqan. By a blind musician Hua Yan Jun or Ah Bing in the 1920s. This piece is one of the greatest pieces ever written for Erhu.
The Performer is a SUPREMO of Chinese Music. Meastro Min Hui Fen. The 2 teachers in My music school are bother greatly in awe of her. One had her masters graduation concert planned and directed by her, the other had lessons with her and learned a great deal. ANY erhu performer out therre MUST and WILL prostrate themselves in some way in her prescence and she is one performer u must watch at all times.
the score...http://www.cadenzamusic.biz/scores.htm first column of erhu scores, 4th row
I NEED someone to help do all the translation and tabling....

YouLanFengChune, thankyou so much for the information. You can tell that she is an amazing player almost perfect and looks like she means business haha. Thanks for the score, i had it and didn't even know. George Gao said on one of his intro lessons that the song was called "crying by the river" but after downloading the score you told me about it says erquan ying yue. I use google translations alot and it's not accurate at all but does help in a big way if you don't know any of that language.

she isn't really perfect. BUT she's still THE ONE. I rememebr accompanying her several times. When I was 16, i was soooooooo nervous, even though i was a crummy qudi number 3... when i was 18, i accompnied her in a xiao solo, that was it. If she were 15 and not 51, i would have fallen for her...

Is erquan ying yue played in a G, i mean would it sound right in a D?
I know you need alot of technique for this song so it will be a big challenge for me.

You need an erquan erhu for playing it.

Well you can play it in D, but it'll be difficult to produce the moody feel. Alternatively you can drop tune your Erhu or use a Zhonghu instead.

The book i have has it printed in A (acutally they just changed the G to an A at the top ) Playing in A is a decent compromise with a standard erhu. In G with standard strings they are so loose it would take a master to control the regular notes. A is still a bit loose but playable. i can play the first few bars of it ... poorly

Yeah! I can play 1 stanza.... (sniggers...) quite an achievement for me.
We are making some erquan for a hong kong teacher. If you guys want, i'll add on the quantity. We dun usually make erquan erhus unless a quantity order comes in.

Yes my friend told me just yesterday that you use a special erhu with a bigger base and thicker strings, i guess i can still try.
How did the exam go YouLan?
