Representation of Harmonics in JianPu
A single fingering position can produce different notes, depending on how it is played. These are harmonics.
The question is: when represented in Chinese numbered notation does the number shown denote the fingering position or the note to be produced?
For instance: 40 (the zero should be on top of the 4). Does this mean to put the finger where scale note 4 would usually be (G in scale D) and then play an harmonic (D) - or does it mean put the finger in whatever position creates the harmonic sound of scale note 4.
I am a physicist by trade so I understand the science, its just the convention for writing it down that I'm not sure about. I have looked it up in several places but never come away sure of the answer. The whole thing is so confusing - and going back and forth from numbers to letters doesn't help.
