That's not an erhu, it's a morin khuur. The playing technique is different.

that’s not an erhu... have you even seen an actual erhu b4? It’s a Mongolian instrument called a morin huur or in Chinese matouqin
it’s not unusual for musicians of bowed string instruments to push up on the string than to push down. the technique exists in other instruments too like the indian or Nepalese sarangi
