Hi!
I picked up a dizi at a small music school in Suzhou a few years ago. I’m almost certain it’s ultra-beginner quality, though the intonation on it is quite good.
It came with tape over the dimo hole, and I didn’t even think to have it replaced with a real dimo before I left.
Would anyone know where I can get a dimo, or out of whate material I can fashion one? (And with what kind of glue/stuff to attach it?)
Thanks!

harro, You should always consider using dimo instead of tape for your dizi... because of course, it sounds better. Here's an explanation: www.easonmusicschool.com/dizi-dimo-vs-tape/Would anyone know where I can get a dimo, or out of whate material I can fashion one? (And with what kind of glue/stuff to attach it?) The dimo is attached to the dizi with a glue called erjiao, which could also be bought at this store. But I heard somewhere that you could use garlic instead for the dimo! :D www.easonmusicstore.com/categories/Others/66Good luck with your dizi, Daveeeeed Thank you so much for all this info and the videos, Daveeeeed! :D That Eason music store seems like quite the place! 0.0 (Yeah, I’ve been wanting to replace that scotch tape for a long time!) Thank you again!

Ebay is risky place to buy musical instruments from in general, but many of the online vendors of Chinese instruments and supplies also sell via Ebay, including Eason Music and Red Music Shop. Sometimes Eason Music runs out of erjiao so I have ordered from Red Music Shop via their website and sometimes via Ebay. Ebay is not so bad if you are buying supplies. Just check out the feedback. Fortunately, strings, dimo membrane, and erjiao does not weigh very much, so shipping from overseas is relatively cheap.
Best wishes,
David

Digging into the Eason site, they seem to be pretty thorough — I really like how informative their YouTube channel is. :) I’ll check out Red Music Shop too! All the best to you too!
