This has been bugging me, how do eu pipa players do a tremolo?

Tremolo? Sorry, not use to some terms here. Do you mean the alternation between two notes very quickly, or a note being played very quickly for a period of time? For the former, you basically press and release the string whilst stimutaneously performing the 'gun' technique; for the latter, you either do the 'gun' technique, or more simpler, the 'lun' technique.

"gun" would be a technique in which you do tan tiao very fast. "lun" would be a technique that starting with the index finger then middle then ring then pink then thumb. does it make sense?hmm...

Doing Gun needs more practice I think. For that, you'll have to do tan tiao slowly. Practice daily. For the lun, do each finger separately starting from the Index finger until the thumb. Do slowly for maximum accuracy so that, when you do the lun next time, you would not hit the other strings. Practice makes perfect. Jia you on the Pipa
