This summer, there's a unique intensive learning opportunity in the New York and New Jersey area. The wonderful group Music From China is holding a Music Camp over three weekends, which includes the chance to be in an orchestra(!), and ends with a concert. This is an opportunity not to be missed! It takes place on three Saturdays and Sundays, July 29-30, Aug. 5-6, Aug. 12-13 (1:30-5:00 p.m.). It’s in Scotch Plains, N.J., close to NYC, and an easy train ride from New York and Philadelphia. Full brochure and application: musicfromchina.org/http musicfromchina-orgwp-contentup loads201608mfc_yo_registration _2016-17-pdf/summer-program/. Or go to MusicFromChina.org. On the Youth Orchestra tab, choose Summer Program on the drop-down menu. The brochure is aimed at youngsters, but the organizers assure me people of all ages are welcome. Or write events@musicfromchina.org, or call (212) 941-8733. I have known the organizers well for almost 20 years. The Music Camp is led by the world-famous Wang Guowei, the former concert master of the Shanghai Traditional Orchestra and Music From China’s Artistic Director. Here is a priceless chance to work with a great master. The instruments included in the program are Erhu, Zheng, Yangqin, Liuqin, Ruan, Hulusi and Percussion. (I have put posts on the relevant forums.) Don’t miss this opportunity to immerse yourself in the Chinese music world and form a group of colleagues. It is an investment that will raise your skills and appreciation to a whole new level. Anyway, I’ll be there!
