Hello,
Most people use little pencils that is higher than the bridge, we put it where the skin protector is in the picture, to remove the pressure of the strings from pressing down on the skin when we are not using the erhu, to prevent the skin from sagging before its time. When you play you remove it, when you don't play you put it back.
Skin is still soft and that's a lot of pressure from the strings, just some good old prevention.

I agree with Minh. It is a good idea to use something to reduce the pressure on the snake skin when the erhu is not being played. It is easy enough to use a short length of pencil, but the fancy one you have looks good too. I don't know that I would buy one, but use it if you have it.
Best wishes,
David

I think it's great and if the price is good I'd buy one. I've not seen a pencil thick enough so I use discarded e-cigarettes - just the right thickness.

All great relies -- I used to use the plastic cover of a marker pen (correct size of course) on my erhu. For the jinghu, I loosen the strings and slide the bridge up to the edge of the resonator.

thanks for the helpful responses everyone! i'll definitely use it from now on.
edcat, i'm not even sure where you could buy one! that said, i can't imagine they'd cost much, probably just a few dollars.
paul, you loosen the strings every time? i think tuning that often would make me mental!

I've seen those on taobao, I used to move my bridge up every time I wouldn't play...! Then I got lazy and stopped and used a pencil

When I'm done playing the jinghu, I loosen the strings -- even if I'm going to practice later in the evening, I re-tune and loosen again when complete (and move the bridge up & down). This is important for a jinghu -- erhus are not that critical. As far as getting mental from that, I guess it doesn't matter as my wife keeps telling me that I'm mental!! Regards, paul...
