I've just received Eason's Beijing rosewood eco erhu. I was surprised for the money it's good build quality. My teacher's only criticism about my HHR Ming Qing rosewood erhu is it's lack of projection. However he did mention it would be years of playing before it would reach it's optimum.
No chance here with the eco erhu: it's loud and dare I say it, brash with the white bridge? There were a couple of extra bridges supplied and it sounds far better with the darker bridge; the white one didn't work for me. (Curiously my teacher prefers a white bridge).
I have one nigging doubt about the synthetic skin. A quality snake skin is thick, tightly bound and takes years for it to fully break in. This eco skin sounds fine immediately from the box and my guess is the tone will not much improve over time.
I don't have any other similarly priced erhus and so can't make a direct comparison but this erhu would be perfect for up to intermediate players, vegetarians or like me worried about taking my prized erhus abroad.
Excellent buy. Thanks SW.
Ed
ps. I wonder if there are different qualities of eco skin available. Do the higher priced eco erhus use the same eco skin?

would this be different manufacture than from the ecoerhu.com folks? And no I haven't bought an erhu yet even though I asked about one a couple of years ago.

I was surprised at how good the bow supplied is. My teacher said the same; he half joked and said it was worth twice as much as the erhu.
