Hello Erhu people. I discovered this forum a long time and forgot it. Then: I discovered erhu coming from this album. It's so good I am really loving its gentle rhythmics. I had erhu before, but sold it because I really didn't like it when I play. After hearing Guo Gan's CD I really like erhu. Unbelievably, I got to play with a really nice one from a friend who lends me. Now I thinking of learning but I have to learn by myself. The pyrotechnics are ...wow! www.youtube.com/watch?v=LJufsVSBQjcI won't be able to do this but now I have an erhu which is decent set up for me by someone knows how and say I need to practice bowing instead of sawing. I read western music and can understand numbers for chinese scores but need to find a good internet youtube demo for erhu. Anyone got suggestions? Looking forward to seeing erhu sample learning clips from any learning people like me. Also please share your erhu make/strings and bow if you like. I know nothing of erhu other than the cheap ones. Thanks ! K

Czesc Krzysztof and welcome.
The above piece is Sai Ma (horse racing). It's a version quite unlike any I've heard before and I rather like it. The standard version is not too difficult (grade 4), played in the key of F and very fast.
As regards bowing, check out videos from Eason music of Singapore. Nicole Li has a very good 'play along' Sai Ma on YT.
Best wishes,
Ed

Jak siÄ™ masz!
Thank you Ed! Your forum posts are great for a beginner like me. I still struggling to make the 3rd octave on erhu but it gets there very slowly today. So happy to use all the bow to get the note now.
Guo Gan is quite a special player. I find the back tracks stop me concentrating on the erhu. For the moment I like the pure erhu tones. A real surprise to suddenly discover the erhu is not croakiness always for me!

Czesc, Jestem Swietnie, K
(Now back to English, since my written Polish is particularly poor)
At the beginners stage I wouldn't bother with the higher octaves, in fact I can't remember how to play scales above the first octave but that hasn't prevented me from playing intermediate pieces.

I got a note in the 3rd octave finally. But it didn't last long and I cannot repeat it.
strill try to learn the positions. Some feedback today from friends. They say I sound really painful/
