Hi, i am from Germany (near Munich / "Oktoberfest" )
i already play "Hackbrett" (Bavarian hammered dulcimer), Mittelaltersackpfeife (medieval bagpipes), Dudey and Praetorius Bock (both renaissance bagpipes).
in September i take part on a dark-scifi Live Action Roll Play. I have to play an character with chinese Background and i had the crazy idea to learn a chinese Instrument. ;o)
I bougth a cheap Hulusi and a cheap Bawu (just to try. And i don`t want to bring an expensive Instrument to an Live Adventure Roll Play.)
The Fingering Chart is similar to my renaissance bagpipes *g* (Just missing one Hole *g*) and because of playing bagpipes, i have enough Lung pressure to play the Hulusi and the Bawu *ggg* ;o)
I was surprised from the wonderful sound of the cheap Bawu. wow! I like this Instrument!!!
The Bordune-Flutes of the cheap Hulusi are horrible loud and sounds wrong.
Meanwhile i have a second Bawu, because i like it so much. The second one is much clearer in the sound, but sharper. I like the cheap Bawu more. It has an very smooth sound. *g*
I am wondering, that both Bawu`s are horrible misstuned when i close all holes. (to deep)
When i open the Thumb-Hole a little bit, then i can sometimes pitch the Tune, that it sounds right.
Is this a normal behavior of Bawu`s?
If not; can you recommend an Bawu? It can also be an expensive one, because i love this Instrument and wan`t to play it much more. (not only on the LARP. There i will use the cheap ones and play tunes, where i don`t have to play the misstuned note. *g*)
Since two day`s i also have an Erhu and for the LARP i will try to construct my own Erhu.
I wan`t to learn two or three easy Tunes till September. My Parents are both Teachers for string bass. So they can help me with the technic, because i never played a bow instrument before *g*
Can you recommend some easy chinese (maybe also Japanese) tunes for the beginning on the Erhu?
I know; it is crazy to learn Instruments in this short time for a Game ;o) But i am very, very crazy (and it must not be perfekt for September )
Last year i organized a "Russian Prisoner Choir" with people, who never sung in an Choir before. And i never wrote Choir-Scores before *lol*
Ok... it was not a perfekt Choir, but we had fun and it was great for the ambience. (and much better, than i expected *g*)
The Game was in an old Jail. And the Setting was the fifties; UDSSR. Horror-Game.
This time; it is the same Location (a old Jailhouse). The Setting is Science-Fiction; on a former Jail-Planet. I play a Member of an asian Syndicate. *g*
I think sad Tunes would be perfekt for the ambience.
Hope you can help me to find something with sad sound and easy to play?
Best regards
Stefanie
