Hello everyone, As a curious musician I decided to get an erhu more than a month ago (on the 01/12). I ordered on this website www.shoppingchinanow.com/ because it was a bit cheaper than the other sellers I had found, and I am usally confident with internet. Problem is, It seems I have been scammed, because since I ordered, despite the mails I sent them I still have no response so far and my 275 dollars are definitly gone. The command status is stuck at "processing" from the time I passed the order. In addition, before ordering I asked them some questions by mail, and even though it took them 2 weeks to answer, they did it, and linked me a model of theirs - implicitly recommending me to buy on their web site. Is there something I can do, like calling for a legal proceeding (I live in France), or maybe directly ask paypal ? Now I don't have the money to buy another one... Thank you for helping me

Hello Enand and welcome. I'm sorry you had a bad experience with SCN. Three years ago I bought "Master small leaf ebony sandalwood" LLS. It arrived within a week and it has become everything I had hoped for. A year ago I wanted to upgrade and emailed them enquiring about a better model; I never received a reply and even emailed his personal email. I took this as a bad omen, didn't buy it and have since got my dream erhu from Eason.
I would file a claim immediately with Paypal since there is a time limit on claims. Paypal which is part of eBay prides itself on it's customer service and will investigate. Provided the time limit hasn't expired I'm confident you will get a full refund.
SCN website has changed and I think at the beginning it was run by two brothers, one of whom used to post on this forum. Another website appeared (can't remember the name) selling very similar products to SCN.
Whatever happened (your erhu could have been lost at French customs, it has happened in the UK) to have no response from SGN is unforgivable.
Best of luck,
Ed

Hello and welcome,
Peter, the guy from this site seems to have stopped his activity. When I bought from him (two instruments), he was very reliable and answered very fast to my emails. About 6 months ago I asked him something and after a long time he answered me that he was abroad and will open his shop online again. But obviously he didn't.
My advice: if you are not too late (you should open an issue at least 45 days after the payment), open an issue for refund by Paypal (litige) and write to Peter to advise him. Why did you wait so long after advising paypal about the issue? Really hope that it is not too late!
Best wishes,
Flo.

To add to the good advice from Ed and Flo, I suggest that when considering a purchase from an overseas source, contact the vendor before ordering. If you don't get a satisfying response before ordering, it is not likely to get any better once they have your money. Usually vendors are on their best behavior and most charming when trying to get a sale. The best vendors are that way all of the time. This is why I often mention Eason Music as a good source.
Paypal is a great way to pay for orders, especially since you don't need to provide a credit card number. It is important though to be aware of the problem resolution policies and procedures of the vendor and Paypal. Don't let too much time go by before asking for help. It is always a good policy to keep communications businesslike and avoid abusive language. Often, the person at the other end was not responsible for the problem, but with courtesy may help to resolve the problem.
One last thing I would like to mention, is that this forum is not an appropriate sounding board for problems with vendors. It is better to work with the vendors directly when possible, and then with Paypal or your credit card company. In some cases, I can be of help as an intermediary with vendors that I know well. So far this thread is okay.
Best wishes,
David

Thank you for your suggestions. I tried to contact paypal with another way than the "litige" one because unfortunately, the payment has exceeded the 45 days limit, by a few days. I waited a bit because I always have so much things to do and since it was on a little china-based website I thought I shouldn't worry too much, given that small websites generaly proceed slower. Sorry if this forum is not a good place to argue about buying problems, I just was a bit confused and was not sure of how to react to my issue.
