I recently got my hands on a few different dizis and was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction of any dizi teachers in the Austin area. I know this is an out of the ordinary question, but I will appreciate any help you could give.

Welcome to the forum, paradon. I don't know anyone in Austin to refer you to, but maybe someone else has suggestions. The usual advice is to look for Chinese cultural schools and organizations in your area. Be on the watch for celebrations such as Chinese New Year, where you might find musicians participating in the events. Sometimes traditional music types don't participate on the Internet, so you need to find them by personal networking. If you strike out finding a local teacher, you could check out Tim Liu's dizi course at www.2measures.com/diziprog.html . I used it when I first started on dizi, and found it effective at learning dizi and jianpu, the typical notation for Chinese music. Best wishes, David
