Someone might have made a thread about this already; I don't know.
Anyway, is there any way of finding out if there are Chinese music teachers near where you live? I'm going away for about two months (taking my dizi with me, though I don't know how much time I'll actually have to practice), but maybe when I get back...?

I live in Illinois, but my university is in Wisconsin. I live at school, and come home during breaks.

I live in Illinois, but my university is in Wisconsin. I live at school, and come home during breaks. I know of an erhu player/teacher in the Chicago area by the name of Betti Xiang. She might know of a dizi teacher in the area. I don't know about Wisconsin though. Look for Chinese cultural organizations, and ask around. As I mentioned before, you can get some general flute help from a teacher of the Western (Boehm) flute, or even Irish flute, which would be yet closer to the dizi in playing technique. There are certainly more than a few Irish flute players in the Chicago area. Best wishes, David

I'll email her. I won't be in town for long (I leave on Tuesday and I won't be back until August 11, before returning to school on August 23), so if I can even just get some general assistance with playing technique, that would be great.
