Hi! I wanna ask you for some help in this case:
I bought my hulusi by chance last year. For some reason it started to make some extra sounds: When i start blowing softly, a different note comes out. To get the note i want to create with my fingers, i have to blow harder untill the reed switches (thats how it feels). And also when i stop playing, the strange sound comes again at the moment the air gets less.
The pipes reed is shiny and one half flat, one half a little out of its frame.
I'm Looking forward to some answers, Chris

However, when you stop playing, the notes MUST stop. If its possible, please upload something online, and we can all give you better advise on this. My initial idea is that there is soime loose reed somewhere.

Hi Chris and welcome,
The reeds look fine to me. What key is your hulusi in? Whilst it's true the lower notes require more breath than the higher notes it shouldn't make much difference on a D, C or Bb hulusi. In fact I would not blow too hard but blow from the stomach on a higher key hulusi in case you bend the reed. As TBG said a recording would help.
