Blowing noise problem!
After play Dizi for 4-5 months. The blowing noise is still a problem.
Does anyone know how to solve this problem?
Note that, Using Android cells phone for recording with about 1 feet distance from my mouth. I play with 42 USD D key purple bamboo.
This is example of the first octave.
This is example of the second octave.

Do you play any other flute (Western concert flute)? In my opinion your dizi is OK, nothing to do with it. It's probably more a problem of blowing skills. The air flow is not focused enough and we hear the air which "escapes" all around and doesn't go into the flute. Maybe it would be good to work on long notes with better focused air flow.

I think you are being too hard on yourself Manuart. True there is some air escaping especially on the higher octaves but that is perfectly normal and with further practise it will further improve. For me anyway when I switch dizis after playing in one key for a while I too get the same problem. My teacher tells me to practise the dizi for 15 min a day but even that I'm failing to do.

I agree with the comments of Flo and Ed. The sound will improve with practice over time, to focus the air stream more efficiently. Don't tighten up anywhere. Tension in your body, including shoulders, hands, and face will sabotage your sound. Try to let the sides of your mouth relax and focus the air with the center of your top lip.
Best wishes,
David

Hi, Flolei. Thank you for knowing that my dizi is not a problem. I will working on long notes practice.
Hi, edcat7. Yes, I use Bb DXH Dizi for 3 months and just get the D key back from my friend. I need more practice on this key. Now i try to practice 30 min for Dizi and 30 min for Xiao.
Hi, david. Thank you for the Tension advice and the focusing the air with the center of top lip. These could really help.

I also agree with everyone as well. When I complained to my teacher that my air could be heard when blowing my dizi, he only laughed and said "Of course, you have only been playing for around four months." He told me it takes a few years for the mouth technique to truly sink in. Also agree with David, my teacher is always telling me to relax my shoulders, sit up straight, stop gripping the flute with a death grip. etc, sometimes reminds me of a gongfu lesson rather than a flute lesson.

This makes a lot of sense. Much of both martial arts and playing an instrument is using the body in a healthy and efficient way. Best wishes, David
