I discovered that all of my fine tuners on my liuqin are bent and one screw has snapped. They look almost identical to violin fine tuners except that perhaps the screw is thinner. However violin fine tuners come in various sizes. Does anyone know about these things?

snap me a picture of the fine tuner please. Solved this problem 1001 times. Please she dmd a picture of the bottom of your liuqin as well. In some models, you can change the entire Liuqin fine-tuner box. (or rather, the whole set of fine tuners, and changing 1 tuner may be tricky)

Last summer I bought a Dunhuang liuqin that had some broken parts, including the fine tuner assembly. Sung Wah at Eason Music sent me a replacement. So, you have options.
Best wishes,
David

Thanks tbg and David. David, did SW have stocks of fine tuner assemblies or did you have to wait? tbg, I've asked SW but lately he has taken ages to reply to my emails. If I don't hear from him by Monday I'll get my wife to send you a picture of my liquin.
David, this is the first time you mentioned you had a liuqin. Are you happy with it? I was going to get some work done on a couple of the frets because one or two notes are slightly out of tune but tbg says it's very difficult to get precise tuning across all the frets.

Well, most liuqins are very hard to keep in tune. They are so bad, some professional orchestras have replaced them with Xiao Ruan or Gao yin Ruan.

Hi Ed, Sorry I am usually a bit slow replying emails over weekends starting from Friday haha. Yes the liuqin tuner is not a problem at all. I'll give you more details over the email in a while. SW

Ed, I am happy enough with my liuqin, considering that it is a rescue that had some damage when I got it. No, the tuning is not perfect, but I have learned to adjust my expectations. It is still fun to plunk around on.

It seems our liuqin standard is about the same btw is your SD liuqin the one with the hole in the back?

I haven't played the liuqin very much, especially not lately. The New Year season is very busy for me, since I am playing gigs with both my Chinese and Vietnamese groups. I am taking lessons on guzheng and dan tranh, and will be performing on dan bau and erhu/zhonghu. I have played Xi Yang Yang more than a few times on erhu though. Setting up my PC to record is the bigger problem. We will see.
Best wishes,
David

I've just discovered that my other liuqin whilst cheap and awful sounding has the same fine tuners. I managed to change them all so ordering some more isn't a priority now. Thanks TBG and SW.
