Hi there!
In recent comments to a question I made in this forum, a couple of fellows stated that the fact in europe the air is dryer than in asia, bamboo flutes woouldnt last as long as more dense wood ones.
I guess they mean that bamboo would crack more easily in such ambient.
I know sudden temperature changes would also crack "any" bamboo or other wood flute.
But... concerning the humidity subject...
This is surely a stupid and naif question, but... Would'nt bore oil protect bamboo flutes from dryness and also from molding and other issues?. Or is it regularly done and I just did'nt knew it?.
Thank you in advance for any comment.
Cheers,
JuanMi

Hello,
I must add that - from my 4 years experience - bamboo doesn't like temperature and dryness CHANGES. I have at least 12 bamboo flutes (if I doesn't count bamboo quenas and quenacho) and only 2 cracks (a little, they are still playable). Inside I use a air-humidifier (also to protect my throat - I'm a teacher). I maintain in my home 18-19 degrees C. When I go to the city to play with someone or behind an audience (Slovenia in winder - temperature almost always under 0), I carry out wooden flutes. For now all is OK like that. When you will get your bamboo dizi - if you will get it in winter, let it acclimate to your home (a couple of hours) before playing it. The majority of my flutes are lackered inside (with transparent or red lack), therefore I don't use any oil for them. I use oil only for unlackered wood (like for recorders).
Cheers,
Flolei

Hi Flolei,
Ok, I take note about the temp and humidity abrupt changes.
I also play harmonicas and it is also advisable to let them get room's temperature before playing.
Aha! Your dizis they are lacquered inside! :-) . Those are good news to me. I guess i will prefer clear lacquer. Will ask for this in my next purchase.
Thanks again for your advices and sharing of your experiences.
Cheers! JuanMi
