Dear colleagues,
You will laugh, but I have a big problem with a dizi. When I put the two parts together, the double tenon didn't seem so tighty. Anyway it completely blocked and cannot be oiled. How to get the two parts apart? What can I do without breaking the flute? It's a great instrument, I don't want to loose it. The trouble is that the two parts are not correctly put together, so I cannot play the flute whithout unblocking the tenon.
Help me please! I need a good advice!
Best regards,
Flolei

Flo, have you tried gently heating the metal tenon?

No, I don't know how to do this. Could you explain me how to do it (without make this beautiful bamboo crack)? I wanted to try to wrap the flute and use two clamps to "force" the blocked tenon, but I'm afraid to crush the bamboo tube and I dare not do anything! I'm as blocked as the metal tenon now!

I would use a source of gentle heat from say, a hairdryer. Then gently twist.

My father thought about using a candle, but I will first try with the hairdryer. Thank you for the idea, Ed! I'll inform you about the end of this trouble. Hope it will be an happy end!

Thanks a lot, Ed! It worked! It was very very hard. My father and me had to warm 4 times and twist very hard before we successed in getting the two parts apart, but we did it. Actually the tenon now is not normal (the part of the tenon inside the embouchure is now at the other side because the glue didn't resist), but for now it doesn't matter. I will see how to repair this when the tenon will work completely fluently. I think that the problem is that the tenon is not really cyllindrical. Therefore it blocks in some positions. I'm happy to have solved this problem as the flute is really a good example of classical beauty and the sound is incredible (it's a low A with very responsive and light 2nd octave). Thanks again for help. Have a very nice week-end, Flo.

Congratulations on separating your dizi. I had the reverse problem; I dropped and bent the metal tenon. Well, all's well that ends well. Now I don't have a low A, is there music specifically written for it?
