You know it took me ages to locate this forum the other day, using somebodies computer.
We should be able to type in guqin forum - and get this site, but i could not see it anywhere.
Why has google not upped the ranking of the page ?
anyway i had to visit CCC's many sites which were very interesting, before i could get a link back to here.

I don't know why finding this site is like a MENSA test for those who don't know it exists.
Luckily, type 'Guqin' or 'Charlie Huang' and my sites are close to the top position!
Does anyone know how to make this forum more searchable?

did you fill in the metatags in the web page software that you use?
You should add key words that are used for searching like - qin, forum etc
need to get your site linked to as many others as possible - i have not seen it in the silkqin sites and the others. In fact I was talking to Chris Evans and he did not know that you had a forum. To think that Gurus like these do not know of this site seems strange...
I happened upon this site by accident when on that fateful day lady luck led me here......

Erm, I don't use webpage software! This forum is free from some web company...
Julian Joseph knows of this forum's existence, and I think he happened on it by chance as well.

Well best thing is to get all these famous english guqin sites to link you on there links page. Once the droves of visitors start to follow the links then your google ranking will increase.

Wow the Guqin Facebook seems quite busy, but unlike a regualr forum (like this) it does not seem to work as well in that way for having discussions. I imagine if they download some forum add-on to the face book it will be even more powerful.
CCC- Was suprised to see that u dont have a link from there to here. If the have fity members over there - they should know about here.

Well, most of the 50 odd members there don't contribute much, just as 200+ members here do not contribute at all...
I find it rather redudant. If they want a discussion then they are well in their means to look for it.

So lack of interest in the qin isn't a purely Chinese trait after all. :-)

It depends on what reaction people have with the qin when they first encounter it and thereafter, not on peoples' contributions who are already onbroad, so to say...

There's an element of neophobia in it: "I've never heard anything like this, it's strange, therefore I don't like it" - just like the first time I listened to Mingus Ah Um. On second hearing a few week later I thought it was excellent.

Yeah, for your average person who is quite interested in learning, there are very big obsticles in the way. So the fact that we have this forum in English is really thankful.
And outside china, you have to be a bit (dare I say weard) and explorative about your musical tastes to come across the world of qin!
So thats why there are not many that visit here.

You have to bea bit weird in China, too, these days, but the Chinese are much better at disguising weirdness than some of us are.

Talking about the difficulty in finding this forum... ha... i came to know about this forum thru song's company's website, then link thru his blog, then link here. I guess i'll also link this website to my livejournal too then to help promote.. kekeke. Actually i don't know why also, its also very hard to search for courses or schools that teaches chinese musical instruments here in Singapore. I can find maybe 3 schools... but mostly they only teach dizi.

You might check with fellow Singapore resident Sung Wah at Eason: www.eason.com.sg/I would expect him to be as plugged in to the Chinese music community in Singapore as anyone. At least he may have some suggestions on who to contact. Best wishes, David

Great to see you here frogprince. I hope you have a great time learning the Pipa.
I suspect one of the reasons why it is so difficult to find is because only registered users can read the forum. I remembered a time when you do not need to register and you can read the articles, the search results in google turn out more of this forum.
