Seeing Donsiau using a cork-like object to seal one of the holes of a 9-finger xiao, I tried using an earplug to cork the membrane hole (mokong) of the dizi. I deliberately did not cork all the way to block the air passage within the dizi. The end result was that I was still able to play the dizi!
Therefore if you have concerns about using tape to cover the mokong, use an unused earplug to cork it! I wonder what other innovations one could think of to seal the mokong if one runs out of dimo . . . . . . . .
