Here's my cheesy attempt with 八月桂花遍地開 using a wooden six-finger xiao pitched in G that Xindi gave me 1.5 years ago. The piper's grip is still frustrating for me. I've tried playing the tune using a similar eight-finger wooden xiao, and for that case, I can play like if I were flying rather than getting my feet dragged.
My mother saw that xiao for the first time today right after this recording as I hid it from her for 1.5 years. She was accusing me of purchasing yet *another* flute, but I told her that someone gave it to me. I forcefully ended the conversation because she felt it was incredible that someone would actually give me such an expensive looking flute, especially when I'm not that great with flutes. She kept on asking who that person is.

When you mean upload the score, do you mean the jianpu or the video file? I would assume that you can easily access youtube (started uploading videos to youtube instead of picasa 'cause seems many people have difficulty accessing videos on picasa, not to mention that one can easily embed youtube videos on the proboards ecosystem)

The jianpo please. My gaohu is currently with my former employer (what irony) until I pay customs and administration fees of £55!

Here's one version of the song (I'm used to another version, which I will post when I have the time to do so). Caution: Playing this song doesn't mean that I advocate communism or communist China! Had I played this song in Taiwan 30 years ago, I would have been thrown in jail by the Taiwan Garrison Command (aka the secret police) just like certain people who disappeared because they had the works of Mark Twain (Mark being confused with Marx).

Thanks for the score Allen. So is it supposed to be played in E? Can you tell me what key the tune is played in from the gaohu video sample? Looking at the score I think I can manage it in both D and G on the erhu.
My teacher also has a distain for tunes written during the Mao era.

You can play it in either D or C or low G on the dizi or the xiao as I've briefly tried yesterday using this posted sheet music. Jianpu doesn't place restrictions on the absolute scale after all as it is a relative scale.
Sorry, I was never formally trained in music as a child or teenager so I don't know how to deal with absolute scales, especially with non-wind musical instruments. You have plenty of contacts in London who might be able to answer, or maybe David or Flolei might give an answer.

You really need to learn how to embed youtube videos on to this message board! I've always wondered how people managed to do that. Also I'll need to copy and print those attachments for my teacher. (Don't even try to teach me, I'll ask my daughters to do it )
