Saw a person performing the Sheng at Convent Garden. Wasn't a modest busker compared to the erhu busker at the Sydney Central Station. Once the sheng player caught me recording him on video, he stopped and insisted that I pay. I decided not to extend such courtesy, especially when much of his performance is accompanied with recorded music. The dizi player in Brisbane and the erhu player in Sydney didn't rely on the pre-recorded music. Looks like whatever city I travel, I will always find someone busking with Chinese instruments!

I know that guy too.. and my liuqin teacher knew him well. It's because of him I'm going to spend my retirement playing my instruments there, though in winter the London Underground would be far warmer. Hopefully when that happens he won't be there anymore.

Well, looks like I don't need to wait for a high bandwidth connection to show a picture of this busker after all: And he's selling his own CDs . . . . . .

BTW, edcat, you should have been at the Convent Garden with your children during the Easter weekend. People were giving away free strawberry yogurt (two packs per person). There was a exhibit of gigantic easter eggs painted with either cartoon characters or interesting abstract art. A lot children's shows there . . . . . . and then the Sheng busker . . . . .
