11wall-west.com/~ph_kosel/fingerin.html So, might it be possible to play flats/sharps on dizi? I tried following the instructions and what came out sounded "flat-ish" but then again I'm not very experienced in music! What does everyone else think?

Always has been possible to play flats/sharps on dizi except that it's challenging to get the right flat/sharp tune when trying to get the finger to partially cover the hole. One would probably have to use photographs to best demonstrate how to do this. In the Xindi, you don't need to worry about partial hole coverings, but you have to figure out how to deal with 11 holes even though the human hand has ten fingers (excluding those who have that rare recessive trait of 12 fingers . . . . . .)

Interesting topic. Personnaly I can play on a dizi (I mean really play a real, right, good sounding tone): - sol - la - la # (only on some flutes which has a little flat B - is it connected?) - si - do - re - re # - mi - fa - fa # The same for the second and 2rt octave (I reach to C). So, 2x2# fail.
