Purchased a six finger alto C xiao: tw.page.bid.yahoo.com/tw/auction/f41349344?u=Y6171020992I'm finding the fingering already challenging enough even though it is a higher pitched xiao. The finger hole to finger hole distance at the bottom of the xiao seems to be equivalent to that of a Bb pitched dizi! I wonder if most people in this form prefer the six finger or the 8 finger xiao.

Personally, when I play a 6-holes xiao, I use my fifth finger instead of the fourth one for the last hole. It works well, althrough it is not as confortable as the 8-holes xiao. Also keys you can play in are more limited.

Let's define our fingers according to the convention in the Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FingerYes, I can see that pressing my ring finger in the region between the bottom-most two holes and using the little finger to cover the bottom-most hole does work pretty well for low A dizi as well as alto-C xiao. However, for some reason, it feels uncomfortable for the low G xiao (see previous discussion with Xindi about this). Very curious if this technique would still feel comfortable with a five finger in front low A xiao . . . . . . . . . .
