I brought back 2 pipas from China and both were slightly damaged on the plane. Does anyone know of someone in San Diego or Los Angeles who fixes pipas at a reasonable rate? Thanks! dwaynekohn@aol.com

Welcome to the forum, dwayne. I don't know anyone in the USA who makes or repairs the pipa, but you might look for a luthier. Someone who can repair an acoustic guitar might have the skills necessary to fix your pipa.
Best wishes,
David

I know a local luthier here in Hacienda Heights. He fixed my friend's pipa at a very reasonable rate. You might want to email him first describing the kind of damages and ask about the charge. His email is o_david@yahoo.com

I hope to bring my pipa to Boston next year. Which airplane company did you use? And how did you carry your pipa?

Hi Dwayne - hope your pipa is fixed. mine was broken in the neck and never healed (went to antiques store and they used special glue for wood and nail) and I had to send it back to shanghai for a new neck. If you are flying with your pipa, try to ask the flight attendants if they have room in their cabinet for it, or at least gate check the pipa, I had no problem putting mine in their cabinet with United Airline and Alaska - not sure about others. Loosen all the pegs, and jam-pack the case (hard case of course) with your cloths so there is no room for the pipa to move in it even if someone throws your pipa around. mine hasn't broken again..... yet so far.
