I've had my C YS dizi a couple of days now and I promised a review. I don't understand terms such as temperament or intonation and so won't be using them; and as such this is a layman's review.
The dizi looked different from the photo in the listing, until I angled it as how the photo was taken. It's more yellow and the wood grain is quite prominent.
The first impressions were positive, good tone, easy to play and the highest notes a sinch.
As usual I got my teacher to check it, knowing as a rule he prefers bamboo to wood. It sounded great in his hands. He didn't have any bad things to say about it (which in his eyes mean quite good!) but admonished me gently for buying yet another instrument (he doesn't know I'm also learning the liuqin/zhongruan).
We on this forum seem to view DXH as to which all dizis measure to. Not having a C DXH I can't compare the two. All I can say is if you want another dizi (perhaps in a different key to what you already have) and want to try wood you could do alot worse than mine.
As I said I have yet to come across a really poor sounding dizi and love even my cheapo Carrot C.
I'll definately be using this for my performance in July.

Yay!
It's nice to have some easily available quality factory dizis available for English speakers!
Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to borrow it from you lol

Well, in an ideal world I'd like to choose them from a pile in a shop. It was 5 years ago since I was last in HK and with no immediate prospect on going back. Pointless asking my wife to bring me back one.

Absolutely! Ask her to bring you back two. That way she'll bring you back one Hey Wencelas - that green sandalwood really does look special!

I'm tempted to try an 'aged rosewood' in Bb; but I've got to have more scores in Bb before I'll consider such an outlay. Yesterday, I played my new C in a sports hall which also doubles up as a concert theatre. It's in the grounds of a top private school and the stage rises from a buried pit at the touch of a button. How cool is that! Well my dizi sounded great but then again with the acoustics I suspect all dizis will. I'm itching to sneak my dizi in and play in the pagoda at Kew Gardens.
