A very warm greetings to everyone in this forum. I need more information regarding this on-line shop. As far as I know, the website supply mainly dizi made from Mr Li dehua, Mr Xie Chang Chun and Mr Fandizhi. Can anyone share with me most recent reviews about this website. 1.) How's the condition of the dizi when you receive it. 2.) Is it well tuned. 3.) How is the service? 4.) Is this website reliable? 5.) Are the dizi good? I have read through topics in this forum regarding the website but mostly were very old... I need a more current review. Thank you in advance.

Hi Wenceslas and welcome. The above website is good and reliable. There are such a bewildering choice of dizis on the market, dizis made from every material. My teacher prefers bamboo to wood; then I heard Xindi's yellow sandalwood and was blown away by it's tone and beauty. My teacher also chooses the fattest dizi he can find, fatter being louder. I've just bought a yellow sandalwood dizi in C and for better or worse this will be the last dizi I buy.....untill the next time What I noticed for me is that the determining factor for dizis of similar quality is the type of dimo and how it's placed. Actually during my last performance the audience chattered continously so much there was no way they could distinguish the quality of the instrument. I'll review the dizi after I get it.

Hello !
I bought three dizis from this website and was very satisfied with the flutes and the service. Especially shipping is incredibly fast! Only weak point: they don't ship to all countries.
About the flutes:
1) Model SD001 in D. Very good value for the price, the best choice for a beginner who doesn’t want to spend too much for a first instrument. For folk music ideal tone and tuning, for concert pieces maybe less suitable. Very easy to play, middle loud, with quite deep first octave and brilliant highest notes.
2) Maestro Chinese dizi (about 80 dollars) in E. Very good dizi, beautifully crafted and finished, of course perfectly tuned, quite loud with very regular tone from the lowest to the highest notes.
3) Professional purple bamboo dizi in D. Very good dizi, perfectly tuned, middle loud with beautiful first octave. The first days I had some problems with the high 6 (high B), but now I get it without any difficulty.
If it can help you and if you can wait two days, I'll record samples for you and post them on the forum or on Youtube if they are too “big” for the forum. Let me know what you mean, whether you are interested in listening samples and whether you have any questions.
With best regards,
Flolei

edcat7 Thanks for your reply, will be looking forward to read the reviews for your wooden dizi.
Flolei Thank you for the reply, if possible can you record a sample for the Professional purple bamboo dizi? I have never tried dizi made by Mr Xie Chang Chun, thats why I don't have any idea how good his dizis are. Thank you very much.

Yellow sandalwood? I have never heard of it. I had a picture in my mind of a blondish color, but the photos on Ebay look dark. I see another dizi by the same seller made of green sandalwood. Interesting.
Yellow sandalwood appears to be popular for herbal remedies, soaps, and perfumes and the like. I wonder what its properties are for flutes. By Googling, I find only one source for the dizis.
Best wishes,
David

Xindi has an ebony and what looks like yellow sandalwood dizi. I know he spent hours in the Hong Kong music shop going through all their dizis (he's a regular customer!) and their tone and beauty impressed me. So I had to get one. I have no idea what green sandalwood sounds like though.
I once asked TW about getting some wooden dizis and his reply were that they didn't sound as good as bamboo and were far dearer. Well, if it sounds anywhere near like what xindi has it would be good value.

edcat7 where do you actually buy your wooden dizi? Online?

eBay, though I would wait until I review it. There is also for sale by the same vendor 'Aged rosewood', it looks too good to be true. If it is I WANT ONE! Xindi has the luxury of getting his dizis from the shops. He does trawl through all of them, choosing the best one.

Ed, I'm really looking forward your review (because my experience with this seller isn't very good). I am also interested in his proposal (I have no wooden dizi), but don't want to have a new disappointment. I really hope you'll be happy with your new dizi!

I'm the seller Edward mentioned. It's my pleasure to join in this forum. From professional Chinese dizi players I got the information that compared with bamboo dizi, the sound of sandalwood dizi is more solid and vigorous, especially for high pitches. And wooden dizi won't crack easily. This is why I propose sandalwood dizis.
Hi Flolei, Could you pls tell me which flute you bought from me before and your username on ebay? I communicated with nearly every customer who bought flute from me, all of whom are satisfied and told me those flutes have beautiful sound. My ebay username is joe198708, you can check my feedbacks. So could you pls check it again and see whether your unsatisfying experience is from another seller?
Anyway, thank you for being interested in my wooden dizis.

Welcome to the forum, Haijun. Thanks for the background on the sandalwood dizis.
I would be interested in reading feedback and reviews of the sandalwood dizi by experienced players. Your Ebay feedback is not extensive, and none that appear to be for a wood dizi. Of course, 100% positive feedback is not bad to have.
That green sandalwood looks pretty cool. I would love to give it a try.
Best wishes,
David

Hi David, thank you for the welcome. Green sandalwood has a natural fragrant smell, so the flute is not only for blowing, but also for collecting. You can search it on ebay to get my listing.
About the feedbacks, yes none of them are for wood flutes, this is because the sandalwood dizis are my new proposals, and I think they are better than the bamboo flutes I sold before.

Hi, Wenceslas! Here is the recording of the Professional purple dizi I bought from Shoppingchinanow.com. The microphone is a little too close to me, so my blowing is very audible. Anyway, I think you can hear quite well the flute tone without too big sound distorsion. Have a nice day! Flolei Attachments:

Thanks Flolei. The dizi is not bad in terms of the tone (tone is deep enough for me), the high pitch are pretty good as well. Just like what you mentioned the first octave is beautiful. I guess it is a value buy. =) By the way the purple bamboo dizi you bought is it with head-joint of without?

It is interesting to see that we agree about the quality of this dizi. I was positively surprised when I got it. It is a two-piece dizi with a simple head-joint (what I prefer); the mokong is at the same side than the blow-hole.

Why don't you send one to David (at cost price) to test it? I'm curious but only curious. I'm reluctant to shell out for something that I've never seen or heard. Flolei That purple bamboo dizi sounds great. I think you can make the kitchen sink sound good too Allen is coming over to visit Xindi and moi and he is kind enough to offer me one of his dizis. So, I'm really not in the market for yet another dizi. I got the sandalwood C as I'm having an awful month and have a performance in July.

Flolei, thanks again I guess I will be ordering a C Major dizi without head-joint from the shop.
To forum dizi lovers, please note that if you are interested in Mr Fandizhi's dizi (http://www.fandizhi.com/) you can order direct from him, I have contacted him and he accepts USD through paypal. He will give you a currency exchange rate once you ask from him. The only thing is... erm communicating with him... but is way cheaper to order direct from him then to order from shops.

Sure. =) I'm waiting for my friend to give me a review for shoppingchinanow's high end dizi (According to him the dizi was made by Mr Li dehua using purple bamboo lidehua.s217.cdn1.cn/chanpinzhanshi/Index.html ).... he is a bangdi player... he should be getting it soon... will share with you his review. =) Until I get my C major, I will review mine too. =)
