Bryan, I agree with Charlie, besides, at my age I would look ridiculous with an ear ring!

Hmmmm.. I don't even have any piercings. I like them when they are done well and suit the person. As for myself I do not wish any holes or markings. ^_^
As a professional guzheng musician and recording artist here I would like to keep a very classy and low key appearence to the world. I would have fake piercings, those are really cool now a days and temporary "hena" tatooing done.
Best,
Vi An

The good thing about henna tattoos is that they wash off when a person doesn't want them anymore which is a much better alternative.
I don't have anything against people with ear rings or tattoos, I just don't want them on me!

Well that's about as far off any Chinese music topic as this board might ever want to go, eh? Funny, it brings up some nostalgic memories for me...
I was about seventeen when my older sister suggested that she and I make a cool African style shirt for our Dad's birthday. We went and picked out the fabric, then went to her house where I measured and cut while she directed and sewed. We talked about all kinds of things during the work. She had recently pierced ears of our younger sister and a friend. Dad and an older brother had talked about getting ears pierced, but never actually done it, so Sis was laughing that the family men are all talk. So I said I wasn't scared, "go ahead and stab me." She just threaded some silk through a sewing needle and had at me. A week later my ear got all swollen and infected. It was kind of a pain for six weeks, but after that all was well. So I guess I looked like a delicate young pirate.
One day about a year later, Sis waltzed into the house with our youngest sister - just pierced the baby's ears - and asked in a casual way did I want my other one done. Well mom said, "I didn't think balance was exactly your THING," so that was enough to make me say okay, go ahead and stab me again. Another stupid six-week infection ensued, but after that I would wear left or right or none or both, as I might feel on the day.
Some years later, in college I knew this rather shy fellow who played banjo. Someone gave him a pretty piece of turquoise that he felt was quite special and he decided he wanted to wear it in his ear. Trouble was, a cruel jokester told him there was a special meaning connected to which ear got pierced. Apparently, he made the banjo picker think that one side versus the other signalled some obscure or disgusting sexual practice. What to do, what to do? Well, because I've been poked on both sides, Banjo guy figures I'm the expert! Ha ha ha ha. I will leave it to the reader to guess what guidance I offered my innocent friend.
Love those memories. What great times! --Dick

Moral of the story: always go to a registered ear piercer...

Moral of the story: always go to a registered ear piercer... If you say so, Charlie... However, first, I would never have been motivated to go to any registered or otherwise official entity to participate in this highly personal matter and, second, had I done so there would be no story. But, yes, other than that I must agree with you whole-heartedly. --Dick

Of course! You are hardly gonna attempt to pierce your own, em... bits... without a visit to ER...

Dick, Thanks for sharing that story -- it was fun reading. Since Bryan is younger than most of us, maybe we can talk him into body piercing -- just joking.....

Bryan, Since you're much younger than me, I'm sure your threshold of pain is much higher.
