Why do Guzhengs vary in string number?

Why do some Guzhengs vary in the number of strings? Ive seen 26 string Guzheng in shops and 21-string Guzhengs too. What is the difference? Is there a standard?

The typical guzheng has 21 strings. I suppose more strings is useful for playing contemporary music that calls for more strings, but 21 is fine for playing traditional music, and probably most everything else.

There may be compromises made in a guzheng that has more than 21 strings, even if only greater weight and size, so ask questions before buying.
