I am considering this Erhu for my foray into the world of Chinese stringed instruments: www.eason.com.sg/products/erhu/heh31.jspMan-made Snakeskin Beijing Rosewood Erhu Why this one? I am not opposed to the use of farm-raised Pythons for music instruments, but I am concerned that when I do make the purchase, my Erhu would get siezed by customs if the CITES is missing, or the agent chooses to disbelieve its authenticity. I listened to the recordings and in the starter grade, I could not tell much of a difference between this and the other starter grade models. Does anyone have any experience with model? Should I throw caution to the wind and go for the real snakeskin model? As I alluded in the beginning, this would be my first Erhu. My previous experience with bowed string instruments is the violin.

With a bit of diligence in putting my money aside, I should be placing an order for an Erhu this year. If I can be VERY diligent about it, I might try and get a hulusi at the same time and maybe save a little on shipping.

I did receive my replacement erhu, so I think that permit issue has been sorted out by Sung Wah at Eason. Hopefully, someone can respond who has experience with the synthetic snakeskin erhu. Good luck!
