Sadly I am a Taiwanese person trying to learn traditional Chinese music living in Charlotte. While we do have a decent sized Chinese community, there are no teachers for traditional Chinese instruments such as Erhu. I understand that there are online lessons being offered, but I am more comfortable being taught in person. I am able to play all the scales and a few beginning exercises out of my Jianpu book, but I feel like a teacher is what I really need to learn how to play this instrument properly.

I don't know any erhu teachers in NC. You might look for Chinese cultural organizations and schools in your area, and larger communities, for referrals to Chinese musicians. Be alert for Chinese and Asian cultural festivals celebrating Chinese New Year and the Autumn Moon.
The worst case for lessons is likely to be Wash DC. I know it is a bit of a trip from NC, but maybe a lesson once-in-a-while is manageable. For erhu, lessons will make a big difference.
Best wishes, David
