Hi there, I am brand new to this site. I came across a beautiful video on YouTube... ... and I am wanting to know if the solo instrument playing from 02:41 til 02:50 and also from 03:06 til 03:25 on the video is either an Erhu, Zhonghu or Gaohu? What are the main differences between these three similar instruments? Is it just the pitch? I would love to learn this instrument! I think that with some hard work I could get quite good at it as I already play violin and have done for 13 years. Any help would be much appreciated Dan

The instrument at the times you indicate is indeed an erhu. The gaohu and zhonghu, besides the different tuning, also have a different character from the erhu. Listening to recordings of each should make the essential differences clear.
Best wishes,
David
