Hong Kong (left upper corner, vertical); Kowloon (right upper corner, vertical); Lucky Piano Company (upper middle, larger character, left to right), Product (2nd line, left to right); Nathan Road #479 ( 3rd line, left to right).
anyone have any idea on the date for this? I'm guessing pre- WWII and maybe as old as 1920-1930. I'll have to reset a few frets, octave and a few other notes seem way off, but it is quite playable otherwise.got some good strings and it has a fine bright sound with good resonance. the body is very heavy rosewood. it seems a shame that such wood is lacquered black but this is obviously a favored finish, and certainly good for preserving the wood. this must have been made of very good older wood by a skilled builder as the pipa all straight with no cracks. I'll probably be offering this for sale at some point if anyone's interested. Lucky Piano Co indeed! ha.
