I have not seen or played the guqin offered by Sound of China, but I can offer a few perspectives. While Carol at Sound of China is more knowledgeable about guzheng and kayageum than guqin, I don't think that she would offer poor instruments of any sort. However, $380 is at the very low end for cost of a guqin, so it will not have the characteristics of a $2000 instrument. The Sound of China guqin is probably a good choice for that price.

I second David. On inspection, it looks like that everything is in order with her qins. She does play a bit of qin so she would know a bit about good qin selection.
It also does not look like the tacky ones that you normally come across on Messrs E. Bay.
