Welcome to the forum, letta123. I am no great shakes on the guzheng, but maybe I can point you in the right direction. Regarding what is taught in early lessons, I am wondering if you are trying to teach yourself or maybe wishing to evaluate teachers. A teacher is going to evaluate and base instruction on where you are at in music and the guzheng. The first lessons are focused on fundamentals of hand and body position, and how to pluck. Any guzheng method book will provide a picture of what is usually covered at the beginning. Your guzheng should not have rusty strings. Maybe it has not been stored well. Do the tuning pins slip? If it was my guzheng, I would change the strings. For help in tuning, you can get an electronic tuner. Usually, the tuning pegs are turned for getting close to the right pitch, and the bridges are moved for fine-tuning. An excellent resource for the guzheng is the Sound of China website. The proprieter Carol sells the instruments and supplies, and also has some information on her site. She is also very generous with advice. You can also post questions on the forum. The more specific your questions, the more likely you will receive useful advice. www.chinesezither.net/www.chinesezither.net/forum/Best wishes, David
